Yes, I understand how the second law is no longer in violation. I simply meant that when evolution supposedly first started forming the universe, and when non-living matter first became living, that I do not understand how this (non-living becoming living) can be done if order moves to disorder. I see what you're saying. The explanation is that the second law of thermodynamics is about the average entropy of a system. It doesn't say that, in every instance, there is an increase in entropy. In fact, every time you run your car's air conditioner you're, in a sense, lowering the entropy in your car. This is not a problem for the second law because the increased entropy outside of your car makes up for it.

The same can be said for the first moments of life on earth. The amount of order in new life is pretty insignificant compared to the massive amount of entropy generated by the sun.
